All lights come on as normal at first key turn, when the heater coil goes off and I turn to start I hear a decent click but absolutely nothing else.

If this is the setup you have then that's exactly the way to do it - move top of pump towards engine to advance - mark it up first so you can always set it back. Think there's another bolt on the other end of the pump (underneath) that you need to loosen as well.

I think the idea is there but like you said does the fan run constanly or does it cut in at say 2k- 3k revs with a relay. I will have a look on a few more forums and post back if i see anything interesting.
T4 2.5Tdi timing marks – 17-11-2008, 02:08 PM. Hi, I have replaced the cam belt and pump belt on my 2002 2.5Tdi transporter and i don't think the pump timing is quite right now because it is difficult to start when cold. I found it very difficult to find any timing marks on the fly wheel to confirm i'm on TDC.
